This time of year is when children write to Santa Claus asking for what they want for Christmas. The angels of Earth (whether human or otherwise) have been carrying these messages for centuries and are expecting them.
In previous years I’ve encouraged you to write a letter dated a year from now telling of all the wonderful things that will have happened in our life in 2009 so, if you did that, check it out and see how much did come true.
Of course it’s a great idea to do that again if you want to – but this year, I’m going to suggest that you make The List to the Universe for what you want in the next year (and always). After all, if you don’t know what you want and don’t ask for it, then God and the Universe don’t know what to give you.
The List should be AT LEAST two pages long, written in longhand. That’s because it’s good to write and write and write to find out what you really do want — and to get past that childhood training of ‘I want doesn’t get.’ And it should be full of fantasy; seemingly impossible things as well as likely things — and it should also include everything that you currently have that is already perfect. Because you want that perfection to continue.
One other tip: to do The List you need to start from scratch. It’s no use wanting current things to get a little better or other people to change to fit in what you want of them as that can impinge on their free will. You have to ask for the basic For example, don’t ask for your boss to appreciate you; ask for ‘the perfect boss who appreciates me.’ Obviously this is difficult in a marriage or partnership as it might be scary to ask for ‘the perfect husband/wife/partner’ if you are worried that the current one can’t be that. But that itself is telling you something important...
Anyway, play with this and ask for all sorts of fun and exciting things. Once you’ve written it, just put it away somewhere and forget all about it until next December. Here are some examples from my list:
By the grace of God, this year, I would like:
A lovely warm house
Plenty of healthy and health-giving food
To wake up happy each day
To become steadily happier throughout the year
To be amazingly, delightfully wealthy
To grow my own blueberries
To be on Oprah Winfrey’s show
At least two wonderful foreign holidays that we can afford easily and enjoy thoroughly
To fly first class
To have time to take another driving holiday in Europe
To make a profit of 3000 a month easily and joyfully
To be inspired
To love and be loved by my wonderful husband more and more and more
For all our equipment to work easily and perfectly
To be safe
To be even more healthy
To become more slender without even trying
To feel relaxed
To let go of attachments
To meditate daily for at least half an hour
To be protected from all negative energies
To live on the edge of the perfect village in a stone rectory
My novel, published this year, to be a world-wide bestseller and attract an amazing film deal
The garden to be full of peonies
The chickens to lay every day
An even better relationship with my mother
To spend lots of very happy time with our friends
To go to Disneyland
To have the perfect Christmas 2009
Etc. etc. etc.
Make this your Christmas present to yourself this year — the right to discover what you want and to ask for it.

Get Inspired!
There's a wonderful new internet venture called the Get Inspired Project run by a lady called Toni Reece who is interviewing one inspirational person per day for 365 days.
I'm delighted and privileged to be 'Day 35' and you can hear Toni's interview with me on The Get Inspired Project
A good idea to listen rather than read the transcribed text as there are some fun US/UK transliterations there.
Don't forget to read/listen to a good few of the other interviewees, particularly the wonderful Barbara Winter.
Thank you Toni. I think what you are doing is totally inspiring.

How to Manifest a Beagle
I’ve always been a beagle girl; no other dog (sorry, hound) will do it for me. The first one arrived when I was nine and they’ve been showing up pretty regularly since then.
Interestingly, I’ve only once ever had to pay for one. This is pretty good prosperity – a thoroughbred beagle can cost up to £800.
The first two were the family dogs so they came, like me, as part of the package. The first one I got, after Henry’s death (the legendary Didcot who became the first dog from the USA to UK on Passports for Pets) cost me £400 but that was fine. Her love was for sale and I wanted it!
When Didcot died I grieved as only a dog-loving softie can. I needed to grieve before considering getting another dog — and I couldn’t afford one at the time, apart from the fact that I was working three days a week at the BBC and landing a puppy on Lion wouldn’t have been fair.
I did register on a beagle breeder’s site saying that I’d be interested in a puppy in about a year’s time as a kind of affirmation that I would be able to afford one then.
In the meantime, as a part of my morning meditation I would imagine myself holding Didcot on my lap, stroking her and remembering just how her fur felt and how it lay on her body, inhaling her scent, seeing how lovely she was in her prime at about seven and feeling the weight of her, the way she would lean on me for a cuddle and enjoying a whole doggy fantasy experience.
I did this for about two weeks and found great comfort in it. Yes, sometimes I would cry too but it was better to get that bit of emotion out rather than suppressing it. Then, one morning as I was actually doing my beagle meditation the telephone rang. I let it be but the lady calling started leaving a message on the answer phone about beagles so I picked up and it was the breeder that I had registered with. She said she had a prospective owner for one of her puppies drop out at the last minute and, although I’d said I didn’t want a beagle right now, she’d wondered if I would change my mind.
It was tempting but unrealistic so I told her so. Then she said, “Would you consider an older dog?”
When I asked her what she meant she said that she had a seven year old bitch who had been a show dog and then a breeding bitch.
“I always try to retire them to loving homes so that they can be cosseted and have a wonderful old age,” she said. “Would you be interested?”
“How much is she?” I asked cautiously.
“Oh, free of course!” said the lady. “I’d never charge to get one of my girls a good home.”
So, Puzzle came to us two weeks later, a dear, sweet, loving girl of seven years old. She came because the Law of Attraction saw that I was focusing on loving a beagle of that age … so it had to give me one.
Puzzle died eight weeks ago and I’ve been doing a similar meditation about her. I suppose should have known better!
Lion and I thought it would be best to wait before getting another beagle; I’m doing a lot of travelling and, to be honest, Puzzle was always my dog. She was okay with Lion but not much of a companion and she’d sulk in my office if I went away. We didn’t want a hound as old as seven as we only had six years with Puzzle — but we weren’t sure whether we wanted a puppy or not.
“I’d just like a dog that loved me,” said Lion.
So — yes, you’re ahead of me! The phone rang 10 days ago and it’s the Master of the Warwickshire Beagles. They have a little bitch who won’t hunt and they need to re-home her. This was totally out of the blue. We had spoken to a huntsman from the pack when they were displaying at a country show three years ago! We’d said we’d be willing to go on a list for potential owners for re-homed hounds.
So Destiny Beagle (yes, I know, I know!) arrived on Saturday. And she and Lion are already joined at the hip. She sleeps in his office in the day (Puzzle slept in mine) and he walks her (I walked Puzzle) and she follows him everywhere (Puzzle – oh, you’ve got the idea).
A bit of me’s going ‘hang on a minute — I’m the doggy person’ but actually it’s perfect. I’m the one who’s travelling; he’s the one who asked for a dog that loved him. And she’s an absolute delight.
So, how to manifest a beagle: two minutes a day totally immersed in the sight, sound scent, and touch of a beagle. The Universe will bask in your joy and deliver.
How to manifest anything else: two minutes a day totally immersed in the sight, sound, scent, feel and taste of it, delighting in it so much that it’s actually totally unimportant whether it comes in the future because you are in love with the experience of it NOW.
If it happened to me once, you could say it was a co-incidence. But twice … ? I don’t think so.
Have a glorious November.

The Law of Attraction and Grace
The one thing that has often concerned me over teachings about the Law of Attraction is the question of Grace. Grace being the gift of mercy, love or healing from what appears to be an external Source whether or not it is merited.
Of course there are many religious interpretations of Grace but this is the most frequently used that I can find.
The Abraham-Hicks teachings tell us that the Law of Attraction works whether we believe in it or not and it’s my experience that Grace also exists whether we believe in it or not. The question is why it turns up when it does and why it doesn’t when it doesn’t.
I think that Grace is real and palpable: that it is both from within us and without us – in that it is the love and mercy of our Higher Selves, our Soul Group and Spirit, all intrinsically part of our incarnate selves — and that it is offered whenever we need it.
I think that Grace is continual; available at all times and in all places. But we have to allow it.
How do we allow it? The same way that we allow all other things, we let go of some tension within so that a previously invisible door can open.
This last month I’ve been grieving for my dear, lovely dog who died at a good age. On top of that there were five other family and old friend bereavements too (not to mention a rather interesting series of astrological transits) and although I applied all I could think of that I know to ease the different aspects of grief, from Bach Flower Remedies to homeopathy, to EFT to crying my eyes out at friends, there was one aspect that was completely perplexing me.
Since all this happened, my life has become infinitely more prosperous from the point of view of career and finances even though I have been feeling unhappy.
In theory, feeling bad should attract more feeling bad… and on a lower emotional level that was true. But on a different level, I was totally in the flow.
Don’t get me wrong here — I believe that the sadness of grief is fine and right and pure ¬— but it also doesn’t make you feel good. And the Law of Attraction says that like attracts like.
You could say it was because I was allowing friends to comfort me instead of being the capable one in charge – but if you knew my best friends they’d soon tell you that I don’t generally bother about being the capable one with them – poor sods!
Was it because the process of letting go of the dog — and the people —was a deep form of allowing despite the grief?
Was it because I had given her/them so much time and attention while they were alive and now there was space for other things?
Was it because the dog (in particular) was a representation of a phase of my life which had also ended (that seemed likely with all the other deaths and the fact that people from the past have been turning up in my life for mutual completion and closure at the very same time).
Or was it because, every day, when I felt like crying, I asked for help? Help from God/Source, whatever you want to call it. I returned to prayer with a need that I had forgotten when I was feeling good. The prayers were simply ‘please help me,’ because nothing I was doing for myself — or the aforementioned loving friends were doing for me — seemed to have any lasting effect, so that was really all there was left.
It was probably all those aspects combined but, inside them, there seems to have been something even deeper. Instead of taking control of my own healing I was giving it up for a greater force than the one-time, incarnate me. And that greater Love was cherishing me and moving me through the surprises and the pain uncovering all kinds of gifts along the way – from new book contracts to offers of other wonderful work and loving reunions.
And I also think that it was also because I have been asking for many months now to be shown if Grace truly exists, whether it can come despite our angers, fears and our tendencies to harness the Law of Attraction for negativity. Ask and it is given.
I’ve seen and heard of stories of Grace in the world but I needed to experience it inside myself so that, instead of calling it luck or fortune or Law, I could know it for the unconditional love that it truly is.
I finally allowed Grace to reveal itself clearly while I was lying in the bath one Friday night, when I was totally exhausted after a week of events and spiritual ceremonies. I had had an incredible month but I felt depressed, sad and a little guilty.
I just said, ‘Please help me. I don’t understand,’ and had a gentle realisation: an idea that I might do something I had never even considered doing; and had never heard anyone else suggest. It just seemed totally right.
I did it there and then and all the pain left. Wholeness flooded back into my heart. Even more, I knew that Grace exists; always has existed and always will exist.
Is it part of the dynamics of the Law of Attraction? Yes, but at the very least it is a mutual above and below process of opening up the channel within yourself to that extraordinary Universal Escrow of Love that is yours by Divine right.
The channel is one that you may not normally open and sometimes it takes an emotional event for you to find it. But it is there even in the darkest times and Grace waits within your Higher Self, doing all she can in the meantime to help you find her.
You don’t have to believe in Grace but if you ask her to help you, she will. Just ask her to show you how to open that particular door instead of barging around to find it yourself.
The Universe will show us how … as long as we remember that it’s not always up to us; we are in a divine partnership. We ask, Grace gives, we allow her to show us the way.
May you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy, may you live in ease – and with Grace.

Prosperity and Selfishness
At last Saturday's Spiritual Laws of Prosperity workshop the old fear of being prosperous being selfish reared its ugly head. It's such a guilt trip that we have taken on - along the lines that everyone else I love can do well (and I'll help them) but it would be wrong and selfish for me to be wealthy.
And yet, secretly (of course) we feel envy when the others do succeed and we face yet another false dawn of hope and disappointment.
Here's the bottom line: You can't help anyone else to prosper unless you can demonstrate prosperity in your own life.
There's no merit in wearing yourself out running after others until you run out of steam. That would be like giving someone a lift to a town 200 miles away without checking that you had enough fuel in your car. If you aren't whole and full and happy before you try and help another you will end up running on empty and, the odds are, they'll get cross with you for not being able to finish what you started!
The only way for the whole world to overcome poverty, hunger, war and hatred is for us to address those issues within ourselves. If they cannot exist in us, then they cannot exist elsewhere. Similarly, the poverty within us is reflected in the world outside.
So, prosperity consciousness is the very opposite of selfishness; it is the most unselfish thing you can do. For if you are truly prosperous you can teach others to prosper too.

Wednesday
The Spiritual Laws of Prosperity
This Saturday is The Spiritual Laws of Prosperity workshop in Birmingham, England.
Prosperity is the ability to be happy — physically, emotionally, spiritually - and financially – whatever the external climate.
All poverty is first experienced in the soul: it is through making peace between ego, self and soul that we can live a truly abundant life.
This workshop will teach you how to align yourself with the spiritual substance that flows to us all and offer techniques for understanding and releasing the fears and thoughts of lack. that so often surround money, finances, and hopes for happiness.
It will include visualisation and exercises that are simple, practical and effective.
It is good to be both spiritual and abundant – how can we possibly help others to prosper if we ourselves live in fear of lack?
Date: Saturday 26th September 2009. Cost: £50
Location: Moseley, Birmingham.
Time: 10.30am to 5.30pm.

From my book, The Spiritual Laws of Prosperity:
All poverty is first experienced in the soul Sarah Ban Breathnach.
The great American mystic Joseph Campbell said you could tell the focus of a society by the height of its buildings.
Up until a century ago, churches and temples were the tallest buildings. Then administration took over. Now our great monuments are dedicated to commerce and economics.
Everyone faces his or her own issues with money but those on a spiritual quest have the harder task as they seek to make peace with the issue of God and Mammon. In simple truth, there is no conflict: the Source is the source of all including financial prosperity — but that is not what we have been taught.
Money was invented by humanity; it is a purely imaginative thing fuelled by belief. We have come to see it as a source of evil, inequality and a power in its own right and we have lost the ability to understand it as a natural resource responding to peace and trust at the soul level.
As a teacher of prosperity consciousness for more than a decade I see many clients who are paralysed by fear over money issues. This is not the feeling of fear — that is a passing sensation from the ego — but a deep, soul-based emotion that is ingrained, perhaps even over lifetimes.
The great spiritual teacher, Louise Hay, once responded with a sharp intake of breath when I told her I taught prosperity. She said she would rather teach relationships any time over prosperity as people had so much resistance to it.
The main issue is this: if the soul is activated, as in the spiritual seeker, it must seek union with the Divine. And for century after century (in the Christian world at least), religious teachings have been interpreted to imply that the holy and the good must be poor. Mix this up with aeons of wealth within the Church itself and the promise of ‘jam tomorrow’ — in heaven if you’re good enough and don’t complain — and you have the basis of mixed and contradictory emotion in the soul.
Each human soul knows that it is precious and rare and sacred to the Divine. And yet the teachings of holiness appear to say that it must experience lack in an abundant world. The modern ego is trained not to be selfish but it is rarely taught to be self-full in order to support the soul’s sacred quest.
Judaism, Islam and the other major world religions have their own soul issues to contend with but it is Christianity (especially in the UK) which carries the worst confusion over money. Even if you would not call yourself a Christian in any way, if you have been raised in a nominally Christian country, the financial/spiritual programming of centuries will still have a profound affect on your psyche. Remember the Jesuit saying, ‘Give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man.’ What we learn at home, at school and from our peers in our childhood will remain as programming forever unless we take conscious steps to change it.
We give to charity; we give to our children; we give whatever we can in order both to be kind and to be good. We pay out on the bills and the house and the car and the credit cards as a priority every month. And because we neglect the call of our soul we give from an empty hand and our soul weeps in consternation at our fear of lack, which we must hide from others because it might be viewed as a judgment from on high because we are not good enough.
There is no reason whatsoever for poverty in this abundant world. The issue is distribution not lack. But spiritually, it needs to be understood that distribution comes from us not from them. By the Law of Cause and Effect, also known as karma and the Law of Attraction, it is our energetic vibration that decides whether we are prosperous or not. It’s not what they told us, it’s what we believe about what they told us. And that can be changed.
Imagine if you had three gifts to give to three people. You walk into the room where they are and one person was bright and excited at the idea of a gift, the second was suspicious or unwilling to trust you and the third said they didn’t want anything and you should give it to the needy, you would find it easy to give to the first one and challenging to give to the last two. If the same thing happened several times, it would be quite normal for you to feel the urge to give to the first person only. The second person would be too much like hard work and often you had to leave the gift ungiven and the third, who was trying to make you do something that wasn’t what you wanted or planned to do, would just feel so confusing that it’s likely that the gift would be dropped or spoilt or broken in the tug of energy.
That’s how it must feel for the Source when it tries to give. You can’t give something to someone who won’t receive it, especially if they believe that you are the one who wrote the rule book on exactly why they shouldn’t receive it!
The Spiritual Laws of Prosperity, a sister book to The Little Book of Prosperity and From Credit Crunch to Pure Prosperity aims to set the record straight on cosmic, divine law when it comes to our health, wealth and happiness. It attempts to show that spiritual law is all about living abundantly and it is centuries of misinterpretation that have misled and restricted us.
It is clear always that we must guard against being possessed by our belongings (that is such an interesting word: possessions!) so that we are trapped in a life ruled by ‘shoulds’ and ‘things’ instead of being free to go and do what our soul desires. To work at the level of the soul requires discernment and loving kindness — to yourself and to others. Certainly you must have what is beautiful and useful in your life but spiritual growth requires the cutting out of the dead wood so that the beauty can flourish.
It is clear in every spiritual teaching — including Christianity — that abundance is our birthright and everything else is resistance.
To learn to be a magnet for wealth is not a selfish thing for the spiritual seeker. It is a service to the world and all the people in it. You cannot teach abundance to others if you, yourself, live in lack. It is clear that giving and giving and giving to others does not solve the world’s problems. What will solve them is teaching prosperity consciousness and trust in the abundance of a loving Source Energy (whatever you want to call it).
Embrace prosperity consciousness; teach it on and watch the people of this planet respond with joy. This is the world we seek and it is good.
